Retail sales price
Dynamics 365 Commerce uses several factors for establishing the sales price before discounts or coupons are applied. The sales price of an item is established in three locations:
- On the product (base price)
- In a sales price trade agreement
- In a price adjustment
The following table describes the common terms that are used in reference to sales prices.Expand table
Term | Definition |
---|---|
Price | The single unit amount that a product sells for in a Store Commerce client or on a sales order. In this topic, the term price always refers to the sales price, not the inventory price or cost price. |
Base price | The price that is set in the Price field on a released product. |
Trade agreement price | The price that is set on a product or variant by using a trade agreement of the Price (sales) type. |
Best price | When more than one price or discount can be applied to a product, it is the smallest price amount and/or the largest discount amount that produces the lowest possible net amount that the customer must pay. In this topic, the concept of best price is always referred to as “the best price.” This best price differs from, and should not be confused with, the Best price enumeration value for a discount’s concurrency mode. |
The sales prices can be overridden within the Commerce channels based on predefined rules. A setting on the released product can prevent people from overriding sales prices.
Occasionally, the price of the item will include the sales tax by default. The price that is presented to the customer will include the tax. This configuration is set up on the Commerce channel through the Price includes sales tax field.
Several fields on the released product can also help with the base selling price. For example, the base selling price can be configured to have the user enter the price or that a zero price is allowed for the product.
The Released product details page can be found under Retail and Commerce > Products and categories > Released products.
Base price (released product)
The base selling price is set up on the product along with the quantity of the lowest unit of measure that it will be sold for (for example, each). It is a single field that doesn’t maintain history and is often considered as the manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP). Base selling price will be the default price for everything in the system, regardless of where it is purchased and by whom.
